WHO WE ARE
Our Story
For the past 30 years, schools in South Lyon have been asked to do more with less. When the state began allocating per-pupil funding to districts after Proposal A passed in 1994, South Lyon Community Schools was consistently one of the lowest funded not only in Oakland County, but in the whole state of Michigan.
What does that mean for us now? It means we've got a lot of catching up to do. It also means that though our community currently is experiencing a population boom, South Lyon's per-pupil funding allocation from the state does not necessarily increase in kind since local property taxes no longer fund schools.

That's where the South Lyon Educational Foundation comes in.

SLEF is a 501c(3) non-profit organization created to fill those gaps between the fixed costs of running a school district and the resources needed for academic innovation and educational opportunities for our kids. We are a group of dedicated parents, teachers and community leaders who work tirelessly to provide those crucial extras along with all the support we can for the next big, exciting ideas in education. We do this by making vital connections with families, local businesses and community organizations, and we're constantly on the lookout for additional ways to serve our schools.

Our Mission
SLEF's mission is to augment and enhance educational programming within South Lyon Community Schools. Through planned giving efforts, grants, scholarships, and fundraising, the foundation seeks to have a positive impact on the current generation of students who make up South Lyon Community Schools, as well as those who follow.
