More volunteer opportunities that serve South Lyon families

SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM

Created to help those students who receive free lunches at school and are left without this benefit during the summer months, the Summer Lunch Program prepares and delivers picnic lunches on Tuesdays and Thursdays all summer (June 17 - August 14). The lunch prep team is already staffed, but there is a need for decorating the lunch bags (the kids who receive the lunches really like this personal touch) and for assistance in delivering lunches to three mobile home communities.

If decorating paper lunch bags is your strong suit, volunteers can pick up some bags to take home in the blue tote which will be in place at door #4 (back of the building) at the South Lyon First United Methodist Church. (Make sure to use these pre-purchased bags since they are the correct weight and size.) Volunteers are invited to decorate the bags with affirming words, designs of your choosing, or stickers, and return to the tote when complete. The kids receiving these lunches really like this addition showing our love.

If you are able and would like to assist in food delivery (one day during the summer or more than one day), please go to the church website at southlyonfirstumc.org, where you will find a link to the Signup Genius. Instructions will be on the signup, which will be active starting May 27.

THE LITTLE FREE LIBRARY AT MCHATTIE PARK

Volunteers are needed to help steward the Little Free Library at McHattie Park, which circulates thousands of books every year at no cost to our community! Since you’re never too young to love a good book, this volunteer opportunity is open to all ages. Those interested are asked to sign up for a week of stewardship at a time and commit to visiting the park daily during their assigned week to straighten and restock the shelves. More information and instructions are available on the signup: www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0449ABA823A75-54189998-2025#/

SLEF relies on the generosity of the South Lyon community, local businesses and organizations to fund the important work we do. From event sponsorships to subsidizing an SEL dog to sending Star Awards to a favorite teacher, there are lots of chances to contribute! And since SLEF is completely run by volunteers, you can be sure that each dollar donated goes directly to support our South Lyon schools. Please reach out to learn more about the good you can do with your donation and the many ways we recognize our supporters.
