We believe in the power of community and the awesome potential student leaders have to do good! That's why SLEF is excited to offer a chance for students to apply for grants that fund the creative ideas they have, which are intended to improve their school communities in meaningful ways.

The application period for student grants is now closed.

Thanks to generous funding from the Coach Kacie Memorial Foundation, a total of EIGHT (8) grants were awarded in Spring 2026 to students at South Lyon High School, South Lyon East High School, Millennium Middle School and Centennial Middle School. Congratulations to all recipients! We are proud to support your amazing ideas to improve your school community - read some of their success stories below!

Proud, impressed and so grateful for Mr. Sinopoli-Smith’s Leadership Class at East who used a SLEF student grant to help put on a spirit week of kindness and connection before spring break.

Cub Club is a student-led mentorship program that pairs NHS volunteers from South Lyon High School with elementary school students from Kent Lake Elementary. They talk, they listen, they play, they learn - and little by little, they change lives. Earlier this year, SLHS senior Lydia Hinote applied for and received a SLEF student grant to purchase more materials for Cub Club participants, which were put to use immediately.

For many kids, Cub Club is what they look forward to most at school. One student said, "Cub Club is the best part of my week. And probably my year. I always ask Mrs. Pearson when it is because I want it to be every day."

We are so proud and grateful for the opportunity to support incredible student initiatives like Cub Club. To all the NHS volunteers - and especially Lydia and the other seniors who are finishing up their high school careers this week - never forget what an amazing legacy you have created with your service and compassion

Bags of Hope - South Lyon East High School

We're so inspired by a group of dedicated young leaders at South Lyon East who realized that when teens don't have access to basic hygiene products, they often struggle with attendance, bullying and self-worth. These students established a project called, "Bags of Hope," and made it their goal to help support those who can't afford hygiene products by making them available for free at East.

Thanks to a 2026 student grant from SLEF, the students have now set up and organized a hygiene closet at SLEHS! We're very proud of their commitment to serve others and make a difference right here in their own school community.
