South Lyon is a welcoming, generous and growing community. This year has been a challenging one, and we know that many South Lyon families are struggling, but we’ve seen generosity from the community throughout this year that is inspiring through various food donations, giving of supplies for students, and fundraisers. Since buildings closed in March, SLEF has been working closely with administration and staff to identify our school community’s most urgent needs. We acted quickly to purchase Read-at-Home kits to get books in the hands of readers who most needed them. As summer approached, we partnered with the Lyon Township Public Library, the Salem-South Lyon District Library, the Summer Lunch Program and Blessings in a Backpack to give free books to families who were receiving food assistance. Finally, this fall, as schools prepared to welcome students back to in-person instruction, we purchased fun, safe playground equipment for each elementary school, and we’re in the process of making sure several secondary school families have the at-home technology equipment their students need to be successful.

A word of thanks can be just as rewarding – Thank a Teacher this season with a STAR Award! Star Awards honor a South Lyon Community Schools team member who has made a difference in a student's life. It's a great way to help our schools and show your appreciation for our education professionals. Star Awards cost $20 and the funds raised go directly back to our students.

If a monetary gift is not feasible, there are additional ways to participate. SLEF is always looking for members of the South Lyon community to volunteer. Spread the Word! Promote SLEF on your Social Media to others in the community, your communication about SLEF is just as important!

The power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together whether it’s helping a neighbor, advocating for an issue, sharing a skill, or giving to causes, everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts!
